It's been coming. Slowly but surely, HC's cross country team has been raising eyebrows and creeping into conversations. At the Rudy Skorupa Invite, the boys made sure that the whispers became shouts. Missing the coveted top 3 teams by a mere 2 points, the boys took 4th place in a field of 10, falling only to Crown Point, Chesterton, and Demotte Christian. Continuing his dominance and consistent excellence, senior Ryan Sandberg bested his own goal and finished 5th with a course best time of 16:29. Closing the gap still more, junior Bennett Duffy took :39 off of his PR from the previous weekend, placing 12th with a time of 17:05. Adding to the onslaught of PRs, Noah Hernandez finished 22nd in a time of 17:29. Grant Zuzich was closely behind in 25th, shaving yet more time off his PR in 17:34. Chris Epting broke the 18-minute barrier, crossing the line in 17:55. Sophomore Caleb Cornett crept closer to the 17s with back to back PRs in a time of 18:08. Junior rookie Aaron Wilson improved by nearly 2 minutes from the previous week, running a 18:42. Nathan Sandberg was right on his teammate's heels, annihilating his PR and breaking the 19s with a time of 18:45. Luka Savich ran a course best in 20:15, and Tony Kostecka, Dawson Boyer, and Leo Diaz all improved upon their times, making gains with times of 20:46, 23:44, and 26:44.
