On Tuesday, the boys track team made a dramatic leap in the standings in their second year in the NCC. Last year, the team placed 4th with 49 points. This year the team scored 106 points and earned 2nd place. The huge turnaround was sparked by three school records. Zumji Gofwen broke the 200 meter dash record (22.06), and his own 100 meter dash record (10.92). The 4x100 relay team of Dominic Giglio, Connor Dixon, Ben Alvarado and Zumji Gofwen broke their own record (43.49) and were conference champions in the event. In the 110 meter hurdles, Rocco Lopez and Elijah Pennavaria each ran personal best times to place 2nd and 3rd, respectively. In the 300 hurdles, Rocco placed 3rd and Elijah 5th while running a personal best time. In the 400, David Murphy ran a personal best 50.83, to place third. The time is the 2nd fastest time in school history. Dominic Giglio placed 7th in the 200 meter dash. The 4x400 team placed 4th with Noah Hernandez and Rocco Lopez running personal best split times. In the distance events, the 4x800 team (Jerome Murphy, Noah Hernandez, Ryan Sandberg, Chase Fajman) placed 3rd with a season best time by almost 8 seconds. Jerome Murphy ran a season-best split time. In the 1600, Ryan Sandberg finished 5th with a near personal best, while Logan Sus broke the 5-minute barrier for the first time in his career (5:57.37). Chase Fajman finished 3rd in the 800. Ryan Sandberg was the conference champion in the 3200, with Bennett Duffy finishing 5th with a personal best time. In the field events, AJ Noel finished third in pole vault with a personal best vault of 11'6". Mason Streit finished 5th. Evan Marsiglio finished 4th in the long jump. Anthony Layman and Rocco Lopez tied for 7th in high jump. Lincoln Zerby placed 4th in the discus with a personal best throw of 131'2.5" and placed 7th in the shot put. The team's 5-1 season record, coupled with their 2nd pace finish in the championship, puts HC in 2nd place in the conference. They placed third overall last year. The JV NCC Meet is tomorrow at Hanover Central, while the state tournament begins next Thursday with the Sectional meet at Crown Point.
