Payton Reich & Maria Janeski lose 4-8 The matches featured 2 of the top players in the state for Munster playing at 1 and 2 singles as Freshman (Priyanka Tallamraju & twin sister Pallavi Tallamraju). The all Freshman singles lineup for Munster proved to be too much for Hanover to handle, but none of them went down without making the Mustang trio earn their wins. Things got really interesting on the doubles side where the 2 doubles team for Hanover made up of Natalie Eckart and Gabriella Hernandez were able to take 7 games throughout their two sets. A very impressive feat. The wind on Monday in Cedar Lake consisted of a consistent 20 miles per hour moving from South to North with gusts up to 30 miles per hour. It was mentioned at one time, all 3 singles positions delayed serving to allow for a big gust to pass through. In tennis, wind is generally known as "the great equalizer" for teams; because, you really have to adjust from hitting your normal shots. The most impressive match for the Wildcats came from the 1 doubles position with Sarah Pena and Jenna Nisevich winning the first set 6-4. Then, in the second set, the Wildcats broke serve and were leading 6-5 with the duo's best server Sarah Pena serving for the match. Unfortunately for Hanover, they lost that game and were forced into a 7 point tiebreaker with the score tied 6-6. The Mustangs 1 Dubs got ahead early in the tiebreak and never looked back. They won the tiebreak 7-3 and the final deciding third set 6-1. Typically, teams would have gone to a 10 point tiebreaker with the match already decided and entering a third set, but since it was a conference match, the bylaws dictate that the match be played out with post season individual all conference rewards on the line. The Mustangs left the Hanover courts with a bittersweet taste in their mouth knowing that Hanover really had them fighting for every point. Next up for the Wildcats is a home match on Wednesday versus Griffith.
