Emy Ortiz & Maria Janeski lose 2-8 Hanover Central played well enough to win, but was outlasted by rival Illiana Christian on Tuesday night losing 2 to 3. First off of the court was Freshman Jillian Sanders who played her best tennis of this early spring season. Jillian moved well around the court and hit some forehand shots with conviction. The future is bright for the Freshman if she maintains that level of confidence in her game. At the 2 singles position, after Carly Campos lost the first set 4-6, you could see her beginning to crack the armor of her opponent who played a solid counter puncher strategy. Carly controlled most of the points and took the second set 6-3. When asked about the match Coach Jesse Forrester said "we had nothing but confidence in Carly. She finishes first in all of our endurance runs, and is in the top 2 during our sprints. She had a great off season, took some private lessons and really dedicated herself to improving." The hard work clearly paid off with a 6-1 third set victory over a quality opponent. The match was tied 2-2 and it came down to 1 Doubles. Sarah Pena & Jenna Nisevich dominated in the first set winning 6-2. Then, the pair were up 5-1 in the second set, but ended up losing 4 to 7 in a tiebreaker, ultimately dropping the second set 6-7. They got down early in the third set, but fought to make it interesting. The night came to a close with a 4-6 loss in the 3rd set. It's one of the oddities in tennis where a team wins 16 games overall versus their opponent winning 15 games, but because of the timing of when the games were won, they ended up falling just short in sets 2 versus 1. The Wildcats played 2 competitive matches in a row and will rest Wednesday before taking on one of the top programs in the area, Lake Central, on Thursday 4/17 at LC.
