Story by Gage Rodriguez Mason is a senior football player at Hanover Central High School. He started playing football when he was in 7th grade. Before that he played lacrosse and wanted to give football a try. Ever since then he loves playing football and has goals to make it to a state championship this year. He wants to embrace the challenges that come with this season to make it there. With challenges in the sport, there are also lessons that can be learned from it. Football taught him discipline, responsibility, being a good teammate, and how to better himself. Responsibility in football taught him how to handle multiple situations and commit to what’s agreed to do. Being a good teammate made him have better relationships with his friends. He also made new friends being a good leader and teammate. Discipline taught him how to work hard to better himself. He believes discipline is the most important skill that someone can have to be successful in football. Through his sport, Mason says, “My dad is a huge motivator for me.” His dad pushes him every day to not only become a better football player, but a better man. Mason looks up to his dad because his dad has good morals, discipline, and responsibility. Mason’s dad is a great role model for Mason to be the man he wants to be. After high school, Mason plans to move down to Florida. In Florida he plans to go to trade school to become an electrician. About leaving high school, he says, “I will miss friends, memories, and the good times.” He especially will miss his favorite class, Strength and Conditioning with Coach Grezenko. Coach Grezenko, also known as Coach G, is the 2023 NHSSCA Indiana Strength Coach of the Year. Mason says,” He brings the juice every day to push me. His class is so fun and will be missed.” Last question he answered was, if you could tell your past self anything, what would it be? He replied with, “Always capitalize on the opportunity.” In conclusion, Mason is really passionate about weight lifting and football. Hopefully, he and the football team succeed this season and bring home some championship trophies to Hanover. We wish him all the best!
