Story by Kendall Ali Henry Maurer, a senior at Hanover Central, has been a positive influence on his school through and through. With his charisma and excellent leadership, Henry is great person in the Hanover Community. Being known mostly for his impact through athletics, Maurer gave a closer look into himself and his goals. Q: How do you expect this football season to turn out? A: I expect this football season to be just as successful, but even more successful than previous years. We won the Conference last year, and we want to keep that reputation this year. We have also lost in the Sectional championship for two years in a row now, so this year we want to win Sectionals, and then go even further. Q: Being your senior year, what are your thoughts and emotions about this big moment in your life? A: With it being my senior year, I wanted to go out with a bang. I want to leave my high school career with no regrets. I want to leave the field, the court, and this campus knowing that I did my best in everything that I attempted. Q: What are your plans for this year? A: My plans for this year are to play football, basketball, and possibly golf. On top of that, I want to become as prepared as I possibly can be for my future in college. Q: Are there any milestones that you're planning on reaching for this football season? A: For the football season, I don’t have many personal milestones. However, Conferences and Sectionals are my top priorities as of right now, and the best way to prepare for those is taking the season week by week. Getting one percent better as a leader and the team getting one percent better are goals that need to be acquired if those milestones want to be attainable. Q: Although football is still going on, how excited are you about finishing your senior year with the new basketball season? A: I am very excited about the upcoming senior season. We have a lot of returning players, which makes us a very experienced team. We even have some young talent coming up too. I have a grocery list of the kids on the team that have so much potential to make a big impact on this team. With a lot of players returning, I expect us to grow and mature as a team very well this year. With our class being the first class Coach Stangle coached, I’m very excited to see what he and the rest of our great staff has planned for us. It should be a very successful season. Along with the football team, the basketball team has also lost in the Sectional championship the past two years, so we hope to break that trend. Q: Any plans for Mr. Maurer after high school? College? Career goals? A: My one blanket goal that I want to achieve is to be the best man that I can be for my community, my family, and my Lord and Savior. I do want to further my talents at basketball by playing college basketball. I also want to major in Construction Management. However, if college basketball doesn’t pan out the way I want it to, I would plan on going to Purdue West Lafayette to further my education in Construction Management. I want to build houses and build homes to help bring families together. I want to give back to my community and the ones surrounding it with my passion for family. Congratulations to Henry for having such a lustrous football/basketball career, as the Hanover Community wishes him nothing but the best of luck. Here’s to a successful football season, as well as bringing the basketball Sectional championship back to Hanover!
