Story by Rhyanna Morgan Malia Barrett recently finished her senior season on the Hanover Central Girls Golf team. She has been a part of the team since her sophomore year of high school. In her free time, Malia enjoys golfing and hanging out with her friends. While on the course, her favorite club to hit with is her seven iron, and her favorite ball brand to hit is a Callaway, preferably the red, white, and blue ones. While looking for a new sport to play in her sophomore year, golf caught her eye because her grandpa, a golf coach, likes golf. The golf course has become a second home to Malia, due to the quietness and alone time it offers her. She enjoys walking around and meeting new people while out on the course. Going into her last season, a goal that Malia had for herself was to make sure that her driver went over two hundred or the one-hundred-fifty region. Reminiscing on past seasons, she shares her first year on the team they had won the conference. However, when they switched conferences they placed third. Malia has made up her mind to end her golf career in high school and not continue with it into college. This doesn’t mean she’s never going to walk on the course again, but instead, it will be a hobby that holds fond memories. When high school comes to an end for Malia, she is thinking about attending Indiana University, majoring in political science. After that, she wants to attend law school. It is hard to start a sport late in life, but Malia pushed through the hard times and came out on top. We wish Malia the best of luck this year and in the future.
