Story by Rhyanna Morgan Sarah Robinson is in the midst of her senior season with the Hanover Central Pom Cats. Sarah started dancing in sixth grade when her mom forced her to try out for the middle school team, but as she got older she began to enjoy it more. Sarah tells us that her favorite dance style is pom because the music is always so fun, and her favorite trick is a calypso. Dance has become a key part of Sarah’s life, shaping her into who she is today. She says that dance has helped her become a more confident person saying, “I feel like I’ve changed so much since my freshman year, especially since I’ve had to dance in front of so many people at competitions and football games!” Dance has given Sarah a safe space to truly be herself and come to know the person she is today. Sarah’s final season is just getting started. After the football season ends, then comes Sarah’s favorite part, competition season. She enjoys getting ready early in the morning and showing off the team’s hard work. Sarah and her team spend months learning and perfecting their routines to ensure they are prepared to step onto the competition floor. Sarah’s biggest goal for the team is to place first in pom at every competition they attend. When it comes time for Sarah to step off the competition floor for the last time, she says she will miss the early mornings before a competition and the late nights leaving one. Sarah plans to further her education at university, however, she hasn't entirely decided on a major. Sarah would love to continue dancing, but only taking classes so she doesn’t lose her skills. Sarah has decided to leave her competitive dance career with the family she has grown to love, the PomCats.
