Story by Jayden Bartoszek Ian Padilla is a captain and varsity lineman on the football team. A lineman is one of the most important positions in football, and the team's success depends heavily on his performance at the line of scrimmage. The football team has had massive success during his time on the team, going undefeated in the regular season his first three years despite moving up a division to face bigger schools. Ian did not let this affect him because at the end of the day it is not about the size of the school, it is about the effort the team puts in. Ian began playing football in 6th grade at the middle school, and instantly developed a passion for it. Despite injuries throughout his career, he never let that discourage him from doing what he loves. He would rather put his own body at risk than leave the brotherhood behind. His teammates could attest that he will play until you make him stop because that is what leaders do. Freshman year, Ian had the chance to play on the team the same time as his older brother, Aidan, when he was a senior. In that same year the team had great success, winning a sectional championship title. Being able to share such a unique experience with his brother is a once in a lifetime opportunity and they seized it. Seeing his brother making big plays was awesome to witness, and it inspired Ian that much more to become the player he is today. Football has taught Ian many important life lessons. One being the ability to dig deep and never give up, especially when he has teammates relying on him, no matter how trying a situation might be. At times it can seem as if all the doors around him are closed, but he doesn’t let that stop him. He is ready to break through any barriers that are put up. Ian Padilla is not only one of the hardest workers, but also one of the most dedicated athletes to his sport. He spends a lot of time reviewing the playbook to ensure he knows every play and can conduct them at a high level. His selfless actions like putting his own body on the line for his teammates says a lot about his character. He is an all-around leader and the captain role definitely suites his character extremely well. Ian can accomplish whatever he puts his mind to, and will do great things in the future for not only himself, but others as well. Good luck to Ian and the rest of the team as they head to Lowell on Friday.
